Billie slept in and I woke early and did some more writing. I ate breakfast downstairs alone and got the laundry done. I thought it best to get Billie’s clothes properly washed rather than me trying to get them bug free with a bar of soap in the bathroom sink.
I left Billie in the room resting in bed, while I walked along the main road – up and back – and found a book store. I could see the store from our hotel window. I couldn’t help myself and have purchased two books – Mrs Funnybones by Twinkle Khanna. She is a popular Indian blogger and writes very witty and funny, entertaining stories about her life and the members of her family. Her parents and her husband are in the acting profession. I also purchased The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. I had borrowed the book from Ruth but never got to finish it. This time I’ll try to get through it all.
I returned to the hotel, and Billie was okay to get out of the room for a walk. We walked up and down the main Model Town Market street in the afternoon trying to get Billie back up on her feet and get more of an understanding of where things are. We went for a wander around the streets near Model Town and passed homes and schools off the main drag. It’s a nice area. We even had some popcorn chicken at KFC and found a couple of cashed up atms.
We have been communicating with the other half of the family in Chandigarh via messenger app. It’s great and we hook up via video chat each night. They all sound as if they’re having a great time exploring the capital. They caught an Uber to their hotel room for 61 rupees ($1.30) and did the hop on hop off bus. There were museums and rock gardens. Lots to see and do in the most planned, and only planned, city of India.
Billie and I have been lapping up the peace and quiet, but we look forward to being reunited tomorrow afternoon and attending the henna party with the bride.
