Imagine sitting at a cafe in the streets of Hoi An enjoying a bowl of Cao Lau and a western woman approaches you with her finger on her lips suggesting to be quiet and she walks up behind Steve and says, “hello Coley!”
It was Vicki from Steve’s work who just happened to be on a tourist bus driving past and she saw the 6 of us sitting at the cafe. Amazingly small world. It’s always nice to catch up with people you know while abroad.
Also, another colleague of Steve’s, George, is in Hoi An right now with his wife. I wonder if our world will get even smaller.
We’ve met travellers from many different countries here in Hoi An. It’s certainly a tourist stop. The kids are enjoying playing in the pool with all the other kids and playing a game of pool under the thatched roof bar. There’s a great mix of young backpackers, couples and families from Canada, England, Russia, Holland, Belgium, Germany and I’m sure plenty of others.
We are going to book a bus and take a tour to My Son temple with another family of 5 (3 boys) from England tomorrow. They have been away from home for 11 months now and this is the final part of their adventure. The eldest Callum is 12 years and has missed his first year of high school but has gained so much world experience, along with his brothers Tegan 10 and Quinn 6 who went to Ethiopia and volunteered for 2 months amongst other countries in Africa and Asia.
We ran into them as they were on their bikes riding through the Old Town in Hoi An.
And here are the Canadian kids the girls have made friends with at our hotel, the Sunflower. Ashley’s made a little connection with Ella who is 10 also.
It sure is a small world..it’s just amazing who you will run into. Great to see you are making friendships across the world. Keep enjoying, Susan
