Girls were up at 5.45am yesterday. A combination of unusual noises – trains passing, old men coughing in the hallway at 4am…all the wonders of staying in a special $50/night room (normally $100) in downtown KL! One redeeming feature – a pool for the kids…aghhhh 🙂
Headed off in the afternoon to the KL Tower – a 421m communications tower that has the tallest viewing platform in the world. We caught the monorail and had to walk to the free shuttle bus service up to the tower. The walk was slow with blisters, tears and unhappy kids faces. But once there, we really enjoyed it. The view is amazing. KL is such an unplanned city with the streets in no order at all. They weave and snake around so as a traveller it’s hard to get your bearings from the maps. The coolness up at 300m was a lovely reprieve from the heat.
And then yes, it rained! We could see the thunderstorm coming towards us but we were so high we didn’t realize it’s power. So on the way down in the free shuttle it started to rain heavily. We waited a little but decided to get going for the monorail – huge thunder roared directly above us. The girls (as girls love to do) screamed and ran! We were a sight to see with many Malaysians finding our run through the streets comic relief. But for the first time since we’ve been here and not in the pool, the girls got right into the whole thunderstorm thing.
And today we head off on the local train to Pudu Station to visit the Old Pudu Wet Market – apparently they have stingrays to pigs penises to purchase!
