‘But why can’t they just put me to sleep?’ said the eldest daughter.
‘Because that would mean another needle,’ I replied.
Her hands cover her face and envelope her fear of having not 1 but 2 needles.
‘Where are they going?’ she asks with her hands still covering her face.
I decide that we need to have some fun here and say, ‘Well, you have to drop your dacks and have one in each cheek!’
Her hands vanish from her face and the look that is before me is one of absolute horror.
I crack up just getting this reaction. Maybe the fear of revealing her bottom was greater than the fear of 2 needle pricks. Either way, Charlie did well. As the nurse put the needle in her arm, she scrunched up her pretty little face and after 5 seconds asked, ‘Is it in yet?’
She hadn’t felt it at all. Thank you to the very efficient nurse Deb who got through 12 arms and 12 injections in record time with only 2 kids shedding tears.
pre-injection waiting room jitters!
post injection happiness and relief!
So now we all have two sore arms (which Ashley is not happy about playing netball and being Goal Shooter this morning) but we’re all protected against Hep A and Typhoid when we go up to the mountainous area of Sapa and throughout Vietnam on our backpacking adventure. Got the malaria tablets too. Quite a financial investment but a must have on our type of trip.
